The 6th Blue Economy Innovation Competition BlueGrowth Piraeus, an initiative of the Municipality of Piraeus in collaboration with the University of Piraeus, was successfully held at the University of Piraeus as part of the activities for “Sea Days 2020”.
The competition, a pioneering institution for the city of Piraeus and the country, contributes to the innovative development of entrepreneurship and supports the creation of start-ups. Eight BlueGrowth Piraeus teams participated in the competition, presenting their business ideas.
The jury, after the presentation of the business ideas from the contestants, decided to give the first prize to the project idea ‘BlueAir’, whose goal is to develop an air purification mechanism using UV C light that will offer effective and economical disinfection and sterilization of the air. The second prize was presented to the project idea ΄FISHING ROD-TRIP’, which includes the development of an application platform that will connect tourists with local fishermen, enabling fishermen to develop tourism activities. The third prize, the Audience Award, was presented to the project idea ‘Smart Face Mask Detector’, which aims to design a mask use detection service that will utilize CCTV systems and will be applied in the port of Piraeus and the surrounding areas.
Note that 1400 people watched the event online, while 600 people participated in the voting procedure.
