The ESPON European Programme in cooperation with Interact, organize a conference and workshop on Thursday, 22 and Friday, 23 November 2018 in Athens. The event will focus on the results of two ESPON studies about the migratory flows, their impact on regional development, regions and cities.
What is ESPON? ESPON is a European Programme on spatial development and regional planning, based in Luxembourg, where 32 countries of the European Space participate to its implementation. The purpose of ESPON is to promote and strengthen the territorial cooperation in Europe through studies, monitoring tools and maps that are published on a regular basis in order to give real support in decision-making to policymakers at all levels of government. Particular emphasis is given to the transfer of know-how and data analysis at a European level. ESPON's objective is to support Cohesion Policy and other European Programmes and in this context the Programme supports the work of the European Commission, the Committee of the Regions and other European and International Organisations. Further details at the ESPON website www.espon.eu.
What will happen in Athens: The conference will present interesting facts about the quality and origin of migratory flows in Europe, as well as the integration policies followed by Member States, with specific case studies (from Greece: Thessaloniki). The event will gather representatives of the European Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee, representatives of the Government and policy makers, representatives of Ministries and local authorities, as well as representatives of European municipalities and regions.
On Friday, November 23rd, in the context of the INTERACT programme, the day will be dedicated to possible types of activities and projects to better tackle migration challenges in Interreg programmes.
